My research has discovered many reasons as to why businesses are installing and utilizing GPS tracking systems:
1. Companies see significant increases in mobile workforce productivity. Areas where this is seen is in improving the efficiencies in hours worked by employees by identifying excessive lunch breaks, time spent on a customer’s location compared with the employee’s own report and using the company’s vehicle for personal use.
2. Companies have been able to reduce their overheads in a number of ways. These include being able to identify unnecessary vehicle in the fleet which are underutilized as well as being able to evaluate employee performance to target employees who are unreliable or breaking company rules and replace them with more efficient employees.
3. It is increasingly observed that vehicle tracking systems can reduce vehicle fleet costs by identifying excessive speeding, irregular vehicle use, hard braking and general vehicle wear and tear.
4. When combined with a CRM program, GPS tracking systems are able to improve customer service. Examples are being able identify the closest support engineer to a customer call, telling the customer how far away the support engineer is and giving accurate time of arrival estimates.
5. Company managers have been able to simplify their reporting and asset management through enabling realtime reporting and utilizing the mapping and reporting features of gps tracking platforms to give a common operating picture of all the company’s assets.
Businesses are seeing very quick return on investment after the purchase and implementation of a gps tracking system. ROI is usually within a six to twelve month time-frame thereafter the system has paid for itself and actually begins to contribute to increasing the bottom line finances.
Happy GPS & Bye!

There are three types of GPS tracking devices. Data loggers, data pushers and data pullers.
Data Loggers
Data loggers, believe it or not, keep a log of the position of the tracker using the devices internal memory. These are very popular in the outdoor sporting industry such as hiking and mountaineering. Enthusiasts can plug their device into their computer when they return home to overlay an online map with their journey and calculate the distance of their trip.
Data pushers
As the name suggests, data pushers send information about the position of a tracker, usually at regular intervals to a central device or server. An ideal use for this could be a courier or haulage fleet.
An ideal use for data pushers is also on the elderly or those that suffer conditions such as Alzheimer’s. The device can help monitor the movements of patients to ensure that they don’t move too far away from the home or hospitals. Another use for data pushers could be for pet tracking. How many times has your cat disappeared for days on end. With a data pusher you could keep track of the animals movements and ease those days of worry!
Data pullers
A data puller will remain with a person or on an object so that it can be queried at any time. These types of devices using mobile phone technology. Usually a message or SMS is sent to the device and it will reply with the co-ordinates of its location.

GPS can to tell you where you are on a paper map. Maps are based on True North. Please to make sure your GPS is set to show True North.
1. Enter a Waypoint where two grid lines cross on the map that you think is near you.
2. Check your GPS receiver to find the bearing and the distance to that Waypoint.
3. Figure out what 180 degrees is from the bearing given by the GPS to the Waypoint. For example lets say that the GPS says that Waypoint is 360 degrees (Due North) and 3.5 miles away. Now if you have to travel 360 degrees due North 3.5 miles to reach that Waypoint then where are you in relation to it on the map? You are 3.5 miles 180 degrees due South of the Waypoint. Whenever you want to know where you are on the map pick two grid lines that cross each other on the map. Then enter them into the GPS receiver as a Waypoint. Then check your GPS to find out where the Waypoint is. You are always 180 degrees and the same distance that is given away from that Waypoint.
4. Place your protractor over the bearing where the two gridlines crossed so you can measure the correct reversed 180 degree bearing.
5. Place your ruler on the scale showing miles from the map legend. Figure out the distance on the ruler as compared to the distance given by the GPS
6. Next Place the ruler over the cross-hairs on the protractor and the reversed 180 degree bearing given by the GPS and measure the correct distance with the ruler to pinpoint your actual location on the paper map.
Happy GPS and Bye!
Hello there!
Great video! It’s cool & funny. Happy watching!
1. The first reason for owning one of these handheld GPS receivers is finding your way around in areas where you can easily become lost. When you are lost, it can be a very frightening experience and not one that anybody wishes to go through again. The mapping capability that is offered with one of these devices will show your position and then tell you how to get back to safety.
2. A second reason for using one of these devices would be finding the quickest route to your desired destination. Sometimes reaching a destination in a timely manner can be quiet frustrating and difficult, but with the use of this GPS device, you will be able to find alternate routes that may be quicker and cause less stress in getting there.
3. Obtaining such information as where is the closest medical facility or gas station or other importance would be a third reason for owning one of these devices. This is very important information to have if you are in a new place.
4. Portability is a fourth reason. The ability to easily be carried with you makes these devices virtually priceless. This allows you to find your way anywhere that you go. So no matter if you are hiking or just going for a walk or just in some new place, these devices will prove to be invaluable to you.
5. The fifth reason and one of the most important for owning one of these handheld GPS receivers, is the ability to contact and inform emergency services where you are. This makes it easier for rescuers to locate you and bring you back into the arms of safety.

In Europe having a GPS unit in your rental car can be a fantastic way to explore the continent. Cities like Rome, London, Madrid and Lisbon were not built on efficient grid systems like in America, so navigation is a problem for many. Reasons for this stem from the fact that you are in a city which is unfamiliar and may have road signs you do not understand, as well as the fact that Europeans tend to drive quite fast in cities. While a GPS won’t make the lights turn green for you (yet), it will help to alleviate some stress that can occur from driving on these confusing tiny roads.
There are generally two ways to go about renting a GPS unit in Europe. Most car companies provide, or at least offer GPS at the counter. You can request it locally when you arrive, or in advance. Most likely you will be given some kind of hand held unit that gets plugged into the vehicle. If you book certain cars, they may have GPS built in, however you need to talk to the rental company to make sure that the booking has a guaranteed GPS, otherwise it is subject to change.
The other way to go about it is to rent a GPS in the United States and take it with you before you leave. This guarantees that you will have GPS, and you can also take it with you on walking trips, as it will work without the car. While most batteries have less than a 6 hour lifetime, it is still useful if you are thinking about using a bike to get around. Obviously, you wouldn’t mount it to the handlebars, but it could be useful incase you get lost. Getting a handheld GPS unit is generally pretty easy, and most companies ship it out to you with return packaging included.
For me with GPS our vacation more enjoyable and fun. Happy vacation!
