Garmin 396 GPS

This GPS system allows you to see everything even the weather! This version is better than the 296 version but better because it offers satellite weather, a color map, and terrain alerts. You will also be able to view the topography in a very realistic manner as well as be warned of conflicts if there are any. Images are viewable in detail and no matter what the light is. You can also transfer data with the USB port and recharge quickly with the battery pack. If you choose to subscribe to XM satellite weather then you may take advantage of the smart antenna and have instant access to weather across the United States. You will have access to Aviation Routine Weather Reports (METARs), Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD), Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAFs), and more. You may even pay an extra fee and enjoy XM satellite radio. Logbooks may be automated to track arrival and departure records as well as keep up with flying hours. Choose air, land, or sea mode with the Garmin 396.

Garmin 496 GPS

The mini MFD Garmin 496 GPS practically knows it all! With this GPS you can fly safer and smarter than ever. This handheld GPS gives you all the information you could possibly need and more than any other GPS out there. The 496 is very similar to the 396 because it offers a color map with details, satellite weather, terrain alters, and more. However, the 496 has more features and better software than the 396 making it the best option for any pilot. If you want detail then the 496 will give you that. Taxiways are diagrammed for hundreds of airports in the United States. It’s perfect for airports you aren’t familiar with and keeps you informed of your position at all times. The airport directory also allows easy access to thousands of US airports including taxi information, restaurants, lodging, attractions, and much more.

Garmin Is The Best GPS Product

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

The largest consumer GPS manufacturer is Garmin and has become almost synonymous with “GPS”. Garmin was leading on producing GPS products and they have sold millions of GPS receivers.

Garmin 396
You will find that the Garmin 396 GPS is similar to many other GPS models out there. If you want a Garmin GPS that offers more services than the 396 then you may want to consider the Garmin 496 GPS. This particular model talks to you, which is ultra convenient when you are trying to focus on where you are going. Many other GPS models also have this function. The apparatus will tell you where you need to take a turn to reach your ultimate destination and it will also allow you to see points of interest along the way.

Garmin StreetPilot c340
The Garmin StreetPilot c340 is in the middle of the “c” series. The big advantage it has over the c330 is text to speech. This means that instead of the voice prompts saying things like “turn left in 100 meters” it will say “turn left on Main Steet”. This can really be an asset when driving city streets and you don’t want to look over at the GPS screen to confirm which turn to take.
Additionally, the c340 can be upgraded with an optional FM TMC traffic receiver. This means that live traffic information can be sent to your StreetPilot to alert you of accidents, construction, or simply rush hour traffic. When applicable the c340 could then route you around that traffic if a faster route can be established.

Garmin Nuvi 250
Garmin has announced the Nuvi 250 which is in the middle of the entry level Nuvi 200 series. The Nuvi 250 is designed to be an extremely simple device, without many of the advanced options many people never use. I often get feedback from readers that a particular device would be a good match for them, but the price was a little high and they felt like they were paying for features they really didn’t need. The Garmin Nuvi 250 might be a perfect fit for them.
One of the changes for the Nuvi 200 series is that the flip-up antenna is apparently gone, replaced by an internal antenna. I’ve never been a fan for the flip-up antenna design so this is a welcome change.
The Garmin Nuvi 250 comes with a 3.5? display, which is the standard among the entry level GPS devices, but still provides enough of a screen to ensure ease of navigation. There is an SD card slot for loading additional products and maps.

7 Important Things While Buying GPS

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

When deciding which Global Positioning System (GPS) is best for you, take you time, do not rush when deciding on what features you need and what you do not. Research many manufacturers and don’t let the salesman talk you into buying something you don’t need. This will save you a lot of time and money.

There are a whole lot of devices in the market for you to choose from, however, getting the right one for your needs and budget may take a bit of research. Selecting the perfect hiking GPS product will benefit you in many ways.

In order to ensure you get quality of money when you purchase your hiking GPS equipment look for the following features in your GPS pack:

1. Does the GPS you are considering to buy have built-in maps? This is important as it will be able to search faster and more efficiently, using less power from the batteries.

2. Check how long the power supply, the batteries, will last.

3. Select a GPS product that can display on-screen maps. These little gizmos will cost you a bit more than the rest but you get much more out of them when you are in a tight spot and need to know where you are without having to decipher in-comprehendible text.

4. Ensure that the GPS equipment is water resistant. IT will last longer and will not let moisture get in the way of its functioning.

5. Ensure that the GPS is compatible with hand-held battery chargers. You might need to recharge the batteries of the GPS in a place that has no power source.

6. Are the in-built maps in the GPS system upgradeable?

7. Don’t go in for a GPS gadget that is too bulky. The right size is also important. The screen must be big enough to display maps efficiently and small enough not to make the whole gadget bulky.

Only a short advice and for me i have 10 reasons why i’m using GPS. Bye!

GPS Phone The Great Way To Move

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

Cell phones are already available with GPS technology installed. These systems are not the same as the GPS devices used by hikers, mariners and drivers. Cell phones with GPS technology use AGPS (Assisted Global Positioning System). Assisted because the system uses both cell phone towers and satellites as location finders.

There are advantages and disadvantages in the new technology. The cost to implement the program will be passed on to consumers - cell phones will cost more. Privacy is a real concern with the general public especially in this day of identity theft. It is a concern that unknown people will be able to access your location. Also there is a possibility that the spam you are flooded with on your home computer will now be sent to your cell phone.

Using GPS cell phones to track people has some great advantages. Locating kids and family can be a blessing. Remember though, if you try to locate someone who is out of your calling area, you will be charged extra.

Many carriers already have GPS cell phones available. You can buy the basic model for emergency tracking or you can pay for the technology that turns the cell phone into a sophisticated mapping, PDA system. Problems are still an issue with the advanced features. The more you use the advanced features, the greater the drain on the battery. Increasing battery size also increases the cell phone size and that is a problem for most consumers who want ever smaller, lighter devices to carry around. Sacrificing privacy for safety is the issue and I suspect that it would only take one positive outcome in an emergency situation to make the decision for you.

As the systems become more and more refined camera and PDA capabilities are being included into the phone itself. Developments in GPS cell phone technology are continuing. One of my favourite GPS Phone is Nokia N95.
